No surprise here, but the Indianapolis Colts pick a quarterback in the preseason edition of Field Yates’ 2026 NFL mock draft.

Unless Daniel Jones can lead the Colts to the playoffs this season, potentially securing him a longer-term deal with the team while saving the jobs of Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard in the process, quarterback is a likely need for Indianapolis at this time.

When it comes to Anthony Richardson’s future with the team as a long-term option, that path became very murky after Steichen’s decision to make him the backup.

So, who did Yates have the Colts selecting?

Well, with the 11th overall pick, the Colts picked Penn State quarterback Drew Allar.

“Allar has ideal 6-foot-5, 235-pound size, good mobility and a rocket arm,” Yates wrote. “I also see moments of creativity on the tape. The tools and upside have evaluators intrigued, but they also want to see more consistency and urgency in the pocket in 2025. If he puts it all together, Allar would be a great get for the Colts in this range.”

Allar’s production in 2024 took a huge step forward compared to his 2023 season.

He went from completing 59.6% of his passes to 66.5% and he averaged 8.4 yards per pass attempt compared to 6.7 the year prior. Of note, however, Allar’s interceptions and turnover-worthy play rate increased as well.

This is projected to be a strong quarterback draft class with Allar being the fifth quarterback taken in the top 11 within Yates’ early mock draft.
