Joshua Zirkzee: Man United star identifies what sets this side apart

Must read

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is in optimistic mood for the new season.

The Dutchman started his United career in perfect fashion by scoring the winning goal versus Fulham on debut in August 2024.

Nonetheless, he suffered the humiliation of being booed off as a first half substitute against Newcastle United in December.

Zirkzee did not let this get him down however, and he fought back with some impressive displays to secure his future at the club in spite of interest from an array of different teams.

With the arrival of attackers, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, he will certainly have a fight on his hands for a starting berth but he is certainly excited about the new season.

Commenting on the pre-season Zirkzee stated, “the group, for me, is just, I don’t know, there’s such a good vibe. We’re all invested in something.”

He added that the team is laser-focused on righting the wrongs of last season’s 15th place finish in the Premier League.

Speaking on the feeling inside the group he added, “outside the pitch, there’s some good vibes. We’re doing a lot of team bonding.”

He went on to state that, “I feel we’re much closer than we were last season, and hopefully we can translate all of that onto the pitch and share it with you, you know, the rest of the world who’s supporting United.”

Zirkzee also took the time to praise the new signings and claimed, “if you see the way that they (have) come in, and also what they add to our environment, it just works together very well. It’s just our job that we stay this close together and also when we have a setback.”

He also added that whilst the team is aware there will be obstacles to overcome during the season that there is “a hunger in this team. There’s even a bigger hunger I think from our manager, from our coach.”
