Today’s Inter Miami Daily Headlines

Must read

Inter Miami seized a narrow yet vital victory against Tigres, highlighting Suárez’s decisive impact and adding new depth in defence with Piovi.

Inter Miami booked their place in the Leagues Cup Semifinals by clinching a tight 2-1 win over Tigres UANL at Chase Stadium. Luis Suárez, showing his big-game pedigree, converted two penalties; his first in the 23rd minute and a dramatic late winner in the 89th minute. This victory sets up another pivotal clash, with tactical adjustments likely paramount, especially given Tigres’ superior 59.7% possession during the match. While Tigres showed threats through Ángel Correa and Juan Brunetta, Miami’s staunch defence held strong.

Lionel Messi’s fitness is under scrutiny following a separate training session from the main squad before the Tigres clash. Although he had a significant impact in the League when he appeared against LA Galaxy, further appearances will depend on his recovery. Manager Javier Mascherano will have to manage Messi carefully, balancing the need for results against his long-term fitness.

In a bid to address defensive frailties exposed in recent fixtures, Inter Miami are finalising the acquisition of Argentine defender Gonzalo Piovi from Cruz Azul for $7 million. Piovi is expected to add vigor and leadership to the backline, especially as the team steps into a critical fixture period.

Luis Suárez’s brace underscored Miami’s reliance on set plays against Tigres. Despite Havana’s curtailed possession, Miami excelled in duel-winning, notably aerial duels where they dominated 72.2%. Rodrigo De Paul continues to knit the midfield seamlessly, enabling quick transitions and fluid attacking moves alongside Suárez and Busquets.
